Yup - this show is actually a week late... I wanted to do it last Sunday, but was a little too pooped.

I went to the NH Highland Games last weekend, and got to experience some great Celtic rock, as always, these games don't disappoint in that respect. Not to mention the heavy athletics, massed bands, clan tents, competitions, and everything else. Always a fantastic time! On the heels of this, I wanted to do a show dedicated to Celtic music, and Celtic Rock in particular. Hope you enjoy it! Here's the lineup:

Not Again!?!

Less than 1 year from the devastating "Mother's Day Flood" of 2006, we are hit yet again. I am doing basement flood control duty as the water is still coming in almost as fast as I can get it out, and roads all around me have washed out, stranding us all in our homes for who knows how long.

That lovely picture you see is basically the main road to anywhere from here, and it's like this in both directions...or so I'm told, since I can't go anywhere. At least I've got some pumps this time. And I've still got electricity, which is not the case for many in the region. I really feel for them. It's wet, it's cold, and it's dark. And we are still gonna see rain, albeit much less of it, for the next 3 days.

Please send squeegees and pray for Spring.

Well, seems as though the "New Blogger" has a limit on how many podcasts it will forward along to Feedburner. This simply will not do.

Since I already had an account with Podshow.com, it only seemed natural that I go ahead and move all the files over, including the entire archive. I am in the process of doing that now, so I apologize if you all of the sudden are getting a bunch of old files showing up in your podcatcher. Then again, perhaps you missed some old shows and this will give you an opportunity to go back and find some new bands and tunes featured on Opinionated Ramblings.

Anyway, the primary feed won't change, and I'm going to keep the blogger site active. I will just link to the Podshow address so you can go find the file if you need to. Commentary, videos, and other stuff will still be posted here, including shownotes from each episode.

Hey there, everyone!
I hope you had a very jolly holiday, and you're ready for the new year. I am home from the surgery and in rest-recovery mode. I was able to come home before Christmas - they released me last Friday, so that was nice. Not doing much of anything just yet, but at least I'm home. You just can't get any rest in a hospital. LOL!

I just wanted to check in with ya and say Hey. Hopefully, I'll be able to put a show together soon. I've had mega computra issues lately that forced me to do a complete reformat and rebuild on the laptop. That sucks. I lost some data, too...lots of recent emails as well as my address book (so if you emailed me lately and didn't hear back, please try again!!).

Net Neutrality - Info You Need

I'm guessing most of us have at least heard the term, "Net Neutrality" by now, but if you're still unclear of what it is and what it means for folks like you and I (as opposed to big-moneyed big business), here's a darn good definition from an excellent site:

"What is Network Neutrality?

Network Neutrality — or "Net Neutrality" for short — is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet.

What is this about?

This is about Internet freedom. "Network Neutrality" -- the First Amendment of the Internet -- ensures that the public can view the smallest blog just as easily as the largest corporate Web site by preventing Internet companies like AT&T from rigging the playing field for only the highest-paying sites.

Bike Week, 2006 - Laconia, NH

Here is a shot of "the strip" at Weirs Beach, NH during Laconia Bike Week. It was taken on Saturday around noontime.
It's hard to tell from this shot, but the bikes are lined up double-wide down the center (just past the white "tower") as well as along the outside edges on both sides... 4 rows from stem to stern on this road alone. And there's hundreds (or thousands?) more in other areas. I won't even begin to discuss the crowds!
And we finally got some decent weather!

All-in-all a great vacation, despite a helluva sunburn from Monday. I've got some video that I can hopefully post soon. Check back later for that. :)

OK, this is a first for me. Hope it works.
I took a short drive today to assess what's going on in the area. Took a little bit of video for you. The first clip is the dam in my (very, very small) town. The second is a nice sinkhole that I'm sure is gonna end up going all the way across the road before much longer.
I'm hoping that if you click on the title of this post, it will grab the wmv file for you. It's about 3 1/2 minutes long and 13 or so megs.

O.R. Mini Report - Make it Stop Raining!!

Howdy O.R. Listeners,
Just a quick message regarding the soggy state of things up this way. Heavy and consistent rains have caused a lot of issues here in the New England area. The picture above is the little dam that holds back the river here in my town. Apparently, it's the newest and strongest along the route that the river takes. If this one goes, there will be big problems further downriver, and it's likely the others will fail, flooding out thousands of people.
We are thankful that we have been spared much of the damage that many of our neighbors have experienced, nonetheless, we are scrambling around trying to keep the water at a manageable level. Luckily, we still have power to keep the pumps going. Hope that doesn't change!
Rivers are cresting higher than they have since 1938, dams are being monitored for potential breach or breakage, and more than 600 roads have reported damage, with over 250 closed in sections because they are impassable. And there's no end in sight for the rain, which keeps on coming. Frankly, it just don't look good.

Sweet.
Picture it: March 30th, the Northeast, on this day last year we had 11" of snow. Not this time.

Today, I took my first motorcycle ride of the season. Who would've guessed that was possible in a region of the country where the snow cover usually doesn't disappear sometimes until May?
But today, it's sunny and quite seasonable. It actually got up to 64 degrees, and there was no way I was gonna let it get by without hitting the road for a little cruise.
I took a spin "around the block," which in my neck of the woods amounts to about 30 miles. I passed several other bikers who were taking advantage of the nice afternoon as well.

Ahhhhh, that's the way life should be. I think we're expecting 67 degrees tomorrow.
Bet you can guess where I'll be.

OK - didja listen to show 25? Remember Carmella outing Ceejay on the great guitar trade debate? Well, I promised to post pictures and get your comments, so here they are.
But you need some background... Carmella says, "I sure love that Bigsby Tele..." so Ceejay says, "I'll trade it to you for the Blue Tele..." Carmella starts twistin' and says, "uh...no." Hence, the debate, 'cause she wants the Bigsby and I want the Plus. Trade makes sense, no? Let's face it, who has cash anymore?

Hope everyone is enjoying their Holiday Season!
I have a question, and if you can give me a little feedback, it would be most appreciated! I have been told by a few folks that, on occasion, the O.R. Podshows are not downloading in their entirity via iTunes.
If this has happened to any of you, please let me know. Also, if this has happened when downloading using a different service, please let me know that as well. I may try to place the show on a different host to see if it is my server or has something to do with iTunes.
Thank you for helping me figure out the problem.
Now, go back to playing with all your groovy new toys! :)

Black Friday or Blue Monday?

Huzzah, huzzah!

Well, it seems the Gods of Black Friday were smiling on me at "oh-dark-thirty" on that frosty morning, as I arrived home from my little shopping jaunt with a shiny new laptop. I'm sure it's only because I did not set my sights on the really mega-sale models that were being advertised here, there, and everywhere, tempting though they were.

Of course, that means that I spent the rest of the holiday weekend sitting with my eyes glued to the (extremely sharp and crystal-clear) screen, restart after restart, while I tried to load it up with everything I needed and make it as handy and familiar as my old warhorse was.
I'm nearly there.

We had 2 winners for the movie quote contest in the Halloween podshow. The answer was Bette Midler (as Winnifred Sanderson) from the movie, "Hocus Pocus." And if you're wondering, the clip was the spell she cast to raise ex-beau Billy from the dead.
Both winners chose a "Don't Harass Betty" CD as their reward.

Salem at Halloween - Yup, I made it!

Here is a shot of one of the main intersections in downtown Salem, MA on the 30th of October (the bigger pic).
This was the part of town where all the action was; just across the street and down the pedestrian walkway. It was crazy-busy, but lots going on and a tons of great costumes. Wish I had taken more pictures. I may have to make a weekend of it next year!
